A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life away from worry.”

The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
