Antony Price, Celebrated for Creating Looks for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary UK-based designer who crafted many legendary styles associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives shortly after he debuted his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the famous black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to merge menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in designing sculptural silhouettes cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London last month in partnership with the label 16Arlington.
