Hurricane the storm is predicted to escalate to a rare highest-level cyclone as it shifts in the direction of Jamaica, delivering dangerous rapid inundation and mudslides.

The cyclone, which recorded winds of up to 120 miles per hour as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is now shifting north-west in the Caribbean Sea and is projected to reach land by Tuesday, as reported by hurricane specialists.

Inhabitants are being told to secure their homes with protective bags and plywood sheets, and to accumulate basic necessities.

Warnings are also active for parts of the neighboring country encompassing the main city, Port au Prince, the neighboring country and Cuba's eastern region, where Melissa is projected to bring similar effects by the midweek period.

Landslides already being caused by the hurricane have caused two deaths in the country, according to local authorities.

Melissa is projected to pass over Cuba by the middle of the week before traveling via the Greater Antilles and emerging into the open ocean.
