Iran Claims Attack on American Facility in the Kingdom of Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.

Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any destruction is uncertain and the US has yet to issue a statement.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have shot down missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites linked to the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with high efficiency and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.

It said debris fell on a neighborhood in Abu Dhabi, causing some structural damage and the death of one civilian.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
