Fresh particulars have surfaced concerning the shocking deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles property on Sunday.
A source indicates referencing a family associate, a massage therapist scheduled for an appointment first raised the alarm after not being able to enter the house. This individual then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
After gaining access to the house, Romy discovered her father's body. Accounts indicate she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had gone with her promptly called 911. Subsequently, paramedics found Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, as well as the use of a dangerous weapon, reportedly a knife. He is presently being held and denied bail.
The anonymous source questioned several previously reported details. It was stated that while Romy Reiner told emergency responders that her brother Nick lived in a guesthouse on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
The source also refuted widely reported claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's actions in the weeks leading up to the incident. Rather the family was "familiar with working through [Nick's] problems together."
The statement also extends to reports of alleged "erratic" behavior by Nick at a party hosted by Conan O'Brien on the night before the bodies were found. While the source stated they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "rebuked" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "major confrontation" between the two were inaccurate.
Per law enforcement officials, the coroner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died Saturday night or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts suggested the state of their bodies pointed to they had been dead for a number of hours.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park area, roughly 15 miles from the scene. He was due to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, stated his client had not received medical clearance and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
