The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

Vince Gilligan never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

Now that Season 1 of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and a second season already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will influence the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

Anyone might to get swayed by the rampant praise and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to steer clear of all that.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's by design. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Despite his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Does the creator See the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We have some potential directions about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to abandon a solid concept for a superior concept. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” he says humorously, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“I'd love for Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
