Vince Zampella, who helped create the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has passed away in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

His passing was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The celebrated industry figure died after his vehicle was involved in a crash and burst into flames on a freeway in Los Angeles on Sunday, according to.

"This represents an unimaginable loss, and our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends, those closest to him, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
